Biography
Savaş Dilbal is a Professor in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at Istanbul Gedik University, Türkiye. He received his B.Sc. degree in System Engineering from the Turkish Military Academy in 1995, his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering (Materials Design and Manufacturing) from Istanbul Technical University, and his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Yıldız Technical University.
As part of his academic career, Dr. Dilbal conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA, between 2009 and 2010. He served as a faculty member at the University of Akron (Ohio, USA) from 2012 to 2014. During this period, he also worked as a researcher on a Boeing project funded by NASA Glenn Research Center. Since 2015, he has been serving as the Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department and the Director of the Robot Technology Research and Application Center at Istanbul Gedik University. His research interests include additive manufacturing technologies, robotic welding, smart materials, soft robotics, and collaborative robots.
Dr. Dilbal has been actively involved as a principal investigator, researcher, and academic advisor in R&D projects funded by TÜBİTAK, NASA, NSF, and ASELSAN. He holds the International Welding Engineer (IIW/EWF) diploma and serves as an editor for Scientific Reports and Advanced Manufacturing Research. He is also a member of TAMA, IEEE, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS).
