(CCGS) – Climate Change Mitigation (CCM) – Muğla

Abstract

According to need analysis, monitoring and tracking carbon emissions, lack of knowledge about climate change and carbon foot-print affects are the main problems of Muğla City. After the determination of the problems, strategic road map was prepared in the field of combating climate change and reducing anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG). Situation of the target groups are determined by the way of stakeholder meetings.
District municipalities and their staff are selected as target group because of the active role in climate change components and authority-responsibility at urban administration. But district municipalities are unaware of the activities which influence negatively climate change and greenhouse gas emission. District municipalities need sustainable and regular information about activities that cause climate change and high carbon emission. Second target group is Non-Governmental Organizations. NGO’s get into trouble in coordination with governmental agencies and citizens while combatting climate change and carbon emissions. “Climate Change Mitigation Center” will provide the necessary source of information and climate change resources. Third target group is universities. Universities play a critical role especially in academic search and study. According to need analysis, combatting climate change and its affects must be based on university – municipality – citizens – NGOs coordination
Within the scope of our Project, Climate Change Project Team will be formed, Climate Change Monitoring Centre will be established, Monitoring System will be installed, Climate Change Mobile Application will be developed, with continuous monitoring, analysis of data and regular reporting, carbon emissions will be reduced. In addition, both government and non-governmental staff capacities regarding GHG emissions and climate change will be improved with trainings conducted. As a third phase, our project aims to create awareness about climate change, to provide the opportunity by tracking of GHG emissions and climate change impacts for target group and final beneficiaries with using a mobile application and to adapt precautions to the urban planning and action plans of city.
