Biography

Dr. Abdurrahman Satman is an emeritus professor of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU).
Dr. Satman holds MS degree from ITU, MS and PhD degrees from Stanford University, all in petroleum engineering. He was a postdoctoral assistant professor at Stanford University during 1979-1980 and then joined ITU. On a sabbatical leave, between 1985 and 1987 he worked as an associate research engineer at Research Institute of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) Saudi Arabia.

He served as Head of the Department between in periods of December 1997 and July 2005, and November 2011 and December 2016, and Director of ITU Energy Institute between May 2005 and Jan. 2009.

Dr. Satman is involved in research in the areas of petroleum, natural gas, geothermal engineering, and energy engineering in general. He is the author or coauthor of about 250 papers which have been published in journals or presented at scientific meetings. He has been involved in teaching the industrial courses and conducting the industrial projects in geothermal energy and engineering, and various topics in petroleum engineering.

Dr. Satman is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Chamber of the Turkish Petroleum Engineers (PMO).

Since retirement on Jan. 1, 2017, Dr. Satman has actively continued to provide the academic and professional activities. Besides teaching graduate courses at ITU and offering professional consulting to industry (particularly to geothermal industry), Dr. Satman has taught Renewable Energy II course to senior level students at Djibouti University since Fall Semester of 2017-2018 academic year.
